Firefighters have been removing hornets nests in northwestern China after dozens of people were killed in attacks. At least 41 people died and more than 1,600 were injured in the number of wasp attacks in Shaanxi Province, since July. Hospitals saw an influx of patients suffering from severe stings after being attacked by the insects, sometimes in swarms. It is believed the wasps in question are actually Asian giant hornets, which carry a highly toxic, 6mm sting. Victims lay in hospitals beds with stings covering parts of their arms and heads covered in stings, the report showed. Most of the attacks have taken place in the cities of Hanzhong, Ankang and Shangluo and involved farmers and other people working outside. Report by Mark Morris.
